The South Czech Philharmonic

The South Czech Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in České Budějovice in 1981 and has been led by its chief conductor Miran Vaupotić since 2021.

In addition to performing music by classical composers and works suitable for smaller orchestras, the orchestra follows the current trend of combining genres and discovering new approaches to interpretation. In this way, it opens up classical music to younger audiences and the wider public.

Peter Valentovič

The conductor and pianist – a sought-after musical partner of world-class singers – has enjoyed success on the world’s opera stages and concert halls. He studied conducting with Leopold Hager at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna and with Zsolt Nagy at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. He was an accompanist at the Paris opera houses Opéra Bastille and Théâtre du Châtelet, where he worked with John Elliot Gardiner, and also served as chorus master and conductor of the Cape Town Opera in South Africa.

In autumn 2016, he conducted the Prague State Opera Orchestra and Chorus on a month-long tour of Japan, where Edita Gruberová shone in the title role of Bellini’s Norma.
