Concert: Lucy Chugai Trio

Lucy Chugai Trio is a newly formed vocal-instrumental ensemble drawing from the rich influences of the Euro-American jazz tradition. Their music references the era of the 1950s and 60s, while also embracing a modern, open sound, interpretative freedom, and intergenerational perspective.
Lucia Chugai is a singer, lyricist, and songwriter. She studied voice at the Prague Conservatory and the Jaroslav Ježek Jazz College. In addition to singing and teaching, she is also involved in contemporary dance, photography, and visual arts.
Mikuláš Pokorný, after studying at the Jaroslav Ježek Jazz College, continued his education at the Janáček Academy in Brno. He performs both as a bandleader and sideman in smaller projects (Laco Deczi & Celula New York, Mikuláš Pokorný Trio, Los Quemados) and larger ensembles (Milan Svoboda’s Prague Big Band, Jan Smigmator Big Band). His style draws from American music of the 1920s and 30s as well as modern jazz piano greats.
