Concert: Galiani Gypsy Jazz

The Romani band Galiani Gypsy Jazz continues the tradition of legendary Romani musicians whose experimental, improvisational, and exceptionally virtuosic music blends a wealth of musical influences into a unique and individual style. The band’s lead is violinist Milan Galyáš, who also performs with the North Bohemian Philharmonic in Teplice and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, with whom he regularly tours worldwide alongside artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Ennio Morricone, and others. An essential part of the band’s sound is the clarinet, performed by Miroslav Filek, a graduate of the Košice Conservatory, now a respected teacher and one of the most acclaimed clarinetists in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. (Among other projects, he collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the score for Sherlock Holmes.) The band’s lineup is completed by pianist David Rakaš, also a conservatory graduate, as well as Miroslav Holub on guitar and double bass. The foundation of Galiani Gypsy Jazz’s music lies in classical music, enriched with Romani czardas and jazz compositions, all performed in their own distinctive interpretive style — characteristic of the finest Romani musicians.
