Natural temple, Kuklov
Kuklov is a quiet place where the stories of a medieval castle and an unfinished monastery intertwine with the stories of long-abandoned walls. A castle conquered by the Rožmberk family once stood on a rocky promontory, of which only ruins and a broken moat remain. A few steps away, a monastery that was never completed began to take shape in the 15th century, but the monks soon abandoned it, leaving only the impressive torso of St. Andrew’s Church with five Gothic windows – a photogenic backdrop whose silhouette is etched in the memory.
Today, cultural gatherings, social events, and wedding ceremonies take place in this freely accessible “natural temple.” The abandoned spaces resound with the harmonious tones of the Krumlov Festival, which further deepens the atmosphere of memories, humility, and devotion.
