The Story of Kende’s Villa
The commemoration of the fate and work of Jewish composers during World War II was organized by the Český Krumlov International Music Festival and the Memory of the Nation of South Bohemia.
In the 1920s Kende's Villa in České Budějovice, the handicapped composer and music teacher Rudolf Kende created. Perhaps he was escaping reality into a better world, wanting to record the cruel fate that befell his family and many other people, or perhaps he was "usually" composing because he was enchanted by the musical muse Euterpe.
The musical-experiential performance The Story of Kende's Villa, in the dramaturgy of Martin Rudovský, organized by the Krumlov Festival and the Memory of the Nation of South Bohemia to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, premiered on May 15, 2025.
We would like to thank the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice for the opportunity to play pieces from its historical collections.
