- Programme
The sixth year of the International Music Festival Český Krumlov took place from August 8 to 23. Next to the tried and true castle interior, such as the Riding Hall for symphonic evenings and the Mask Hall for recitals and chamber concerts, festival visitors heard music in other places in the castle and manor, as well as beyond its gates. Svornost Square in the historic center of the town became the location of a pivotal festival event – Italian nights. Accompanied by the National Opera Orchestra with conductor Filippo Giganti from Italy, famous opera arias were sung by Czech and Italian singers: Eva Urbanová, Monika Brychtová, Antonia Salvadori and Gianfranco Cécchele. The concert was filmed by Czech television.
The festival dramaturgy didn’t forget to commemorate the anniversaries of the deaths of composers Felix Mendelsson – Bartholdy and Johannes Brahms. A Mozart nocturne concert rendered by the Schwanzenberg Harmony was held at the terraces of the castle. Forgotten baroque and classical opera preludes and arias from the manuscripts of the Krumlov castle archive were resurrected. Visitors were transported to the era of Rudolf with the help of the historic musical instruments of the Rožmberk group.
