A rich velvet voice that is polished to diamond-like perfection, exceptional emotional depth, fascinating acting performance … loved by critics and audiences alike -- this is Argentinean tenor José Cura -- a mercurial and charismatic singer.

Capably following in the footsteps of the legendary Three Tenors, José Cura continues to successfully perform in the best international opera houses. He finds his way into the hearts of opera enthusiasts with his original and emotionally-charged interpretations of Othello, Samson, Canio, Cavaradossi and Kalaf.

Known as “the tenor of the 21st century,” Cura is also a renaissance man with experience as master opera director, conductor, and composer. With all of these talents, he's also incredibly personable and approachable. Cura’s performance at the Festival promises not only an unforgettable musical experience but a brilliant show.

Born in Rosario (Santa Fé, Argentina), José Cura started playing the guitar and singing in a choir at twelve, then studied composition and conducting. At twenty-nine, after having moved to Europe, José Cura started his solo singing career. Overseas opera houses opened their doors to Cura -- in 1992, he successfully debuted in Verona and Torino, and London and Paris thereafter. As a singer, he earned an international reputation for his emotional and original interpretations of Italian and French opera heroes as well as his unconventional and innovative concert performances. His intense, intelligent, and deep stage expression has earned him a renegade reputation , but he continues to star in leading roles with leading opera houses such as The New York Metropolitan Opera, The London Royal Opera, The Viennese State Opera, The Great Theatre of Liceu, The Zurich Opera, and La Scala. José Cura's repertoire is exceptional in that he can combine his vocal talents with conducting. He has also earned significant media attention as an opera director, designer and photographer.
